Unfinished Brass

Posted by Robert O'Connor on 5/13/2016
Over the last 2 to 3 years there has been a steady uptick in requests and sales of polish unfinished brass hardware. Knobs, pulls & escutcheon plates etc. there has always been sales of brass, but usually plated over. Oil Rub Bronze, Polish or Satin Nickel. Sales of Oil Rub Bronze & Polish Nickel are always there as they are traditional sort after finishes. For those people who use a white background on their cabinetry those 2 finishes always look great.
But not all background finishes are white. Presently the fashion has moved towards shades of painted grey. Enter Antique brass & unfinished brass. The Design trade prefers unfinished brass left to age naturally. But by far the biggest movement is for custom Antique Brass. No 2 pieces are exactly the same. You get the sense that the finish is natural. and to a degree it is as the process is all done by hand and when done properly it looks really natural. Wax finishing over the antiquing does the trick for a beautiful finish.
We have done antiquing for many pieces. 18" surface slide bolts for French doors, window hardware, furniture hardware pieces and of course spectacular kitchens. Our rusting on Iron & Antiquing on Brass is really the best and I feel a real sense of Artistic enterprise when we complete a big job and see how happy the customer is after all their kitchen jewelry is installed..
